The need for more research about China

Photo of Marina Svensson

Sweden is lagging behind other European countries and it is necessary to also educate the next generation of China experts in Sweden

On October 18th, Marina Svensson, the director of the Centre, presented a background paper entitled Challenges for China Research and State of the Field in Europe: Lessons for Sweden at a seminar in Stockholm. It was written for a study on research, innovation and cooperation with China that the government had commissioned Sylvia Schwaag Serger, the deputy vice-chancellor of Lund University, to write. In her background paper Marina points to the need for more research on China in Sweden at a time when China's global role is increasing. She argues that Sweden is lagging behind other European countries and that it is necessary to also educate the next generation of China experts in Sweden. Her report is found here (pdf in English) and the deputy vice-chancellor's report, all background papers, as well as the presentations from the seminar are found here
