At a time of increasing political polarizations and global challenges, including climate change and geo-political tensions and wars, and cut-backs in funding for studies on East and South-East Asia in many countries in Europe as well as in the United States, in-depth and context-specific expertise on the countries and cultures in East and South-East Asia is more important than ever. There is an urgent need to both safeguard and further develop education and research at the Centre, and Lund University and Sweden more broadly, and the Centre's newly adopted strategy provides a roadmap for how we plan to achieve this as well as set our priorities for the coming years.
