Plan your studies
Finding the appropriate courses and putting together the study plan is the most time-consuming part of the application.
When looking for courses that you would like to take, remember to focus on what you need and want, namely courses at the appropriate level that fits your education and can be credited when you return. Your planned studies should primarily fall within the social sciences unless otherwise authorized by the Director of Studies and the courses should not overlap with courses you have studied at Lund University.
In the Lund University database of exchange agreements, you will find information that can answer relevant questions such as:
- How many points are required for full-time study?
- Are there any specific requirements you need to fulfil?
- Are there restrictions on what courses you can apply for?
Please review these exchange study placement requirements carefully. Some spots are exclusively for the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology, and they might require humanities courses, which could clash with our requirement for students to take social science courses. Preferably look at options covered by University-wide agreements, which are generally available for studies across all academic disciplines.
Your course selections should significantly contribute to your thesis work.
- A minimum of 7.5 credits should be Asia-related
- All non-Asia-related courses should directly relate to your thesis.
Please remember this when looking at potential courses and before submitting your proposed study plan to the Director of Studies. Ensure you explain how your course selection aligns with your thesis topic.
The Director of Studies will consider requests for language studies on an individual basis. Contact the Director of Studies via email to discuss and provide motivation for such requests.
The course approval process happens in multiple stages because the initial selections in your application are not final. The courses you want may not be available when you apply, and if you're nominated, your choices might change before your exchange period starts. Make sure to discuss any potential course changes with the Director of Studies and get approval. Approval from the Director is crucial; without it, there's a risk that the courses you take during your study abroad may not count toward your master's degree.
Please also remember that it is the host university that ultimately will determine to which courses you are accepted to.
