Information for students admitted to our MSc in Asian Studies

Welcome to the Master's Programme in Asian Studies!

We are very pleased to welcome you to the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies in Lund. On this page, you will find information to help you prepare for your arrival, get started in the programme, and settle into your studies.

Before you arrive

Before coming to Lund, there are a few things you can do to prepare and connect with others.

Conditionally accepted

If you were in the final year of your Bachelor’s studies when applying and have been conditionally admitted, you must submit your final transcript and diploma to University Admissions as soon as they are issued, following the document requirements for your country.

Please also read the information under the heading "Final-year Bachelor's student" for instructions on what you need to do if you are unable to present your official Bachelor's degree diploma by the start of the programme.

We also recommend that you bring your original documents to Lund in case any questions arise regarding your documents during the final processing of your admission.

Connect with other students

To help you get to know your future classmates, a  WhatsApp group called Asian Studies (2026-2028) has been created. You are welcome to join to stay in touch and start building connections.

You can also chat with current students at Lund University through Unibuddy where you can ask questions and get insights into student life and studying at Lund University.

In addition, Goin' Connect offers a broader platform for connecting with other students across Lund University.

Prepare for your studies

Lund University offers free online courses on academic writing. These courses are a useful way to refresh your academic skills and prepare for your studies before the programme begins.

Introductory activities (26–27 August)

If you arrive in Lund before the programme starts, you are warmly invited to take part in our optional introductory activities. These sessions are designed to help you get familiar with the Centre, meet staff and fellow students, and ease into your new environment. Please note that these activities are not mandatory and the programme will officially start on 1 September.

26 August

10:00-12:00 - Registration at the Centre

You can arrive at any time during this period to complete your registration. It will take place just outside the student kitchen, with signs to guide you. Please bring a valid photo ID (passport or EU ID card).

During your visit, you will also be offered a short tour of the Centre and an introduction to the Asia Library. There will be a small informal "fika" and an opportunity to chat with students and faculty after registration.

If you are unable to attend, you can complete your registration during the first days of the programme by visiting the Nina's office

27 August

13:00 - 15:00 - Welcome to the Centre
Introduction meeting with the Director of Studies Stefan Brehm

15:00 - 16:00 - Staff Introductions and fika

Start of programme

The programme officially begins on 1 September.

Your first course is COSM02: Introduction to Asian Studies. Below you will find the tentative course schedule and reading list. Please note that changes may occur.

Study platforms and tools

Before the programme starts, we recommend that you familiarise yourself with the digital tools used in your studies.

Canvas

Canvas is the learning platform used at the Centre. A student guide on how to use Canvas is available online and can be accessed without logging in.

From mid-August, you will be able to access the course COSM02 in Canvas using your student accout. You log in here using your Lund University student account.

In this course there is a module called “Students in the 2026-2028 programme introducing themselves”. Please make a post there where you introduce yourself with your name, country of origin, and focus of your bachelor's (and you can also upload a photo if you want to). You can also add some more information about yourself:

  • Why do you want to study for a master's in Asian studies?
  • What country/region are you most interested in?
  • Any particular topics or issues?
  • Anything else you want to share with your classmates and teachers?

Each course in the programme will have its own Canvas page.

Programme locations

The Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies is located on Sölvegatan 18 B in Lund. Some teaching during the introductory course will take place in the LUX building on Helgonavägen 3.

Practical information and support

To help you settle in, Lund University provides a range of practical resources. On the the Lund University web page you can find useful pre-arrival information and also information on what to do when you have arrived in Lund to help you settle in. You can also have a look at our page with general information for new students.

Housing

Finding accommodation in Lund can be challenging, especially at the start of the autumn semester. If you are unable to find housing in Lund, we recommend also looking in nearby towns and villages. For many students, accommodation outside Lund is a temporary solution, as availability often improves during the spring semester. More information is available on the  Lund University housing pages.
