About the Centre

The Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies  (Centrum för öst- och sydöstasienstudier) focuses on interdisciplinary education and research on contemporary East and South-East Asia. Organizationally the Centre is a section of the Department of History in the Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology. The Centre is headed by a director and for its strategic work it also relies on an advisory board. The staff at the Centre include researchers, administrative staff and PhD students.

The research at the Centre focuses on international relations, economic development, civil society and political issues, as well as digital transformations. Building upon strengths in these fields, the Centre is a hub for students and researchers at Lund University interested in the region. It is also integrated into a large network of scholars and institutions in Asia and elsewhere.

The Centre runs an interdisciplinary Master's programme and has individual courses at both bachelor level and master level as well as a PhD. Programme.

The Centre also houses a library, the Asia Library, which opened in 1999. The collection is interdisciplinary and focuses on contemporary issues in East and South-East Asia.

The Centre is involved in a wide range of activities. These include hosting guest researchers and organising open lectures, seminars, conferences, film screenings and exhibitions.
