Visualizing Asian Cities Photo Exhibition
The photographs in this exhibition were selected from nearly 100 submissions to the photo contest Visualizing Asian Cities arranged by the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies.
Asian cities are vibrant and diverse places that reflect unique histories at the same time as they are undergoing rapid changes. The cities are however often depicted in rather stereotypical fashion in media so the challenge was to explore and visualize cities through images that show complexities, contradictions, and changes.
The 15 photographs in this exhibition were selected from nearly 100 submissions in the following categories:
Traditions and heritage
Participants were invited to explore and visualize different aspects of history, traditions, and heritage sites in the city.
Participants were invited to explore and visualize hidden places that reveal new things about the city and contrast or challenge images of sites, buildings and places that are used in city and tourism branding
Dreams and creativity
Participants were invited to explore and visualize the dreams that draw people to the city, and creative spaces and activities in the city.
The exhibition will be open daily (during the Asia Library opening hours) until 31 May.
