Empire’s Squatters? Towards a Critique of Land, Law and the Coloniality of Dispossession in Malaysia
Open lecture with Boon Kia Meng, Postdoc at University of Copenhagen
This talk will focus on the on-going entanglements of land, law and the coloniality of dispossession in present day Malaysia, and explores the limits and possibilities of its critique.
Short Bio:
Boon Kia Meng is a political anthropologist and holds a PhD. in Area Studies from Kyoto University, Japan. His work is situated at the intersection of political anthropology and political theory, focusing on law, policing and the coloniality of power in Malaysia. As postdoc with the Urban Frontiers project at University of Copenhagen, he is researching peri-urban land conflict, property and citizenship in postcolonial Malaysia.
