Panama's "BRI-xit" due to US pressure has implications for China, but it could also lead to further geopolitical tensions

Tabita Rosendal, PhD Candidate at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, has published an article in The Conversation about Panama's decision to leave the Belt and Road Initiative. In the article, she questions whether this is the "great step forward" for Panama’s ties with the US that Marco Rubio suggests or whether Donald Trump’s actions will ultimately push Panama closer to Beijing.
