Book chapter on Cambodian civil society

Book cover of the book "Routledge Handbook of Civil Society in Asia"

Dr Astrid Norén-Nilsson has written a country review on Cambodia in a new book titled "Routledge Handbook of Civil Society in Asia".

The chapter examines competing understandings of Cambodian civil society through the prisms of civil society and the state; the role of the international donor community; and the re-emergence of historical civil society. In conclusion, it is argued that shifting attention to emerging grassroots social movements opens the door for the development of a richer civil society in both empirical and conceptual terms.
