Tamma Suryanarayana Sastry
Dr.T.S.N.Sastry is a professor & Head, Department of Law, University of Pune. Before joining in the present position , he held a number of position in various Universities in India. He was the Director of the School of Excellence in Law and Dean, (Academic and Planning) at the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambekar Law University, Chennai. He was also the Head of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights. He Started his career as an Associate Professor in the Pondicherry Central University.
Dr. Sastry visited the Maison Des Sciences DeL'Homme, the University of Nantes and the University of Paris 13 fully funded by the Maison Des Sciences Del Homme of the Ministry of Education, Government of France under the Fellow Exchange Programme in December 2006 for a fortnight funded by the Government of France.
Dr Sastry is one of the few scholars selected to the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window lot 13 in a tough competition and has been attached to the Centre for East and South East Asian Studies of the Lund University.
Dr Sastry established the Centre for Human Rights of the University Grants Commission of India at the Pondicherry University in 1996 and was the Cooridnator for a long period of time.
His areas of interest are international law and human rights. He is presently working on human rights of the Vulnerable groups.
Dr Sastry is the coordinator of the Human Rights Education programme for all the students of the University of Pune.
Dr Sastry has authored two books. Introduction to Human Rights & Duties; State Succession in Indian Context. He has edited the following books: Fifty Years of Independence and the Polity; Studies in Human Rights; India and Human Rights: Reflections and he has published around 40 research papers on International law, Human Rights and the Constitution of India and Presented papers in a number of International and National Conferences, Workshops and Seminars.
Dr Sastry for the first time in India introduced the Moot Court Competition for the Post Graduate Students of Law and took a number of academic initiatives. He served as member of number of distinguished bodies including the Management Council of the University of Pune. Dr Sastry was awarded the Vijay Shree Award by the Indian International friendship society in recognition for the promotion of Human Rights Education in India.
