Dr Ming Chee Ang
Ming Chee Ang was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre from February 2013 to July 2015. She specializes on politics, people, and protests in the Southeast Asia region. Her research focuses on the collective action and social resistance of communities within non-liberal democracies. Her works consisted of indigenous and bottoms-up empirical evidence, with special strength on collective identity based on ethnicity, culture, and religion.


Dr Kamaruding Abdulsomad
Kamaruding Abdulsomad was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for East and South East Asian Studies, Lund University from January 2006 to December 2007. He obtained his first degree in Economics & Economic History and a PhD in Economic History (2003) from the School of Economics and Management, University of Lund, Sweden.


Dr Magnus Andersson
Magnus Andersson was a researcher at the Centre for East- and South-East Asian Studies between 2011 and 2014. His research focused on socioeconomic development in the context of economies at an early stage of economic development in East and South-East Asia. Magnus is now a senior lecturer at the Department of Urban Studies, Malmö University.

Swati Banerjee was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University. Dr Victor Cheng
Victor Cheng was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University between November 2006 and August 2008. He received a PhD in history from the University of Melbourne in 2002. His research interests include contemporary Chinese history, strategic culture, military decision making and the diffusion of military technology and ideas.


Dr Cesar de Prado Yepes
Cesar de Prado Yepes was a Research Fellow at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University 2002-2003. In April 2002 he defended a PhD thesis in the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the European University Institute titled “Technology Investment Expectations and Multi-level Protection Patterns; standardisation of info-communications sectors in the triad."


Associate Professor Lisa Drummond (visiting scholar)
Lisa Drummond was an Associate Professor of Urban Studies at York University in Toronto, Canada and was a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies in Lund in May 2007. Her research focused primarily on urban social life in Vietnam, including analyses of popular culture, specifically in television serials and women's magazines, women's roles in Vietnamese society, and the application of Western concepts such as public and private to the use of space in Vietnamese cities.

Dr Stefan Eklöf Amirell
Stefan Eklöf Amirell was a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University, from September 2003 to August 2005. He took his PhD in history at Lund University in 2002 with a dissertation about the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) and the Decline of Suharto's New Order regime. Arianne Gaetano was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University 2008-2009. Dr Lingfeng Guo
Guo Lingfeng is an associate researcher, working for the Institute of European studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Financed by the STINT Foundation, she was a guest researcher in the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University from 1 March 2006 to 29 May 2006. She graduated from Inner Mongolia University in 1999, with a master's degree in World Ancient and Medieval History. She obtained her PhD in World History at Peking University in 2003.

Dr Guo Xuetang was a visiting scholar at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University from August 2006 to July 2007. He is an Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and Deputy Director of the Institute of International Politics at Tongji University in Shanghai, China. His main areas of expertise are Chinese foreign policy and strategy, Sino-US relations and Asia-Pacific security. He has taught courses in International Political Economy, International Organization, Contemporary Sino-US relations, and American Foreign Policy at Tongji University.


Dr Karl Gustafsson
Karl was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies between September 2011 and August 2013. Karl has a broad and interdisciplinary research interest which covers and combines international relations theory, identity politics, discourse analysis and the politics of historical memory. Empirically, he is interested in international relations in East Asia, Sino-Japanese relations, Chinese and Japanese nationalism and war memory. He is especially interested in the nexus between international relations and collective memory. Karl is now professor of international relations at Stockholm University and senior research fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs

Prof. Christian Göbel
Christian was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre between October 2009 and March 2012. His research interests lie in the change and persistence of democratic and authoritarian systems, central-local relations and governance in China's multi-tiered administration, reforms of rural taxation and administration in China, and the comparative study of corruption. He is now a Professor at the Institute of East Asian Studies, University of Vienna.

Associate Prof. Kristina Jönsson
Kristina Jönsson held a position as a postdoc fellow at the Centre from September 2004 to August 2006 working on the project Issue without Boundaries: HIV/AIDS in Southeast Asia. The purpose of the project was to analyse the relationship between global, regional, national and local strategies to combat HIV/AIDS in light of increasing globalisation, and to discuss changing (health) governance and the role of the state (see Publications/Working paper). From 2006 to December 2009 she worked as a researcher, lecturer and Director of Studies. She is now Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Lund University.

Souknilanh Keola
Souknilanh Keola was a visiting researcher from the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE, Japan) from October 2011 to October 2013. In IDE, he works as a research fellow at Economic Integration Studies Group in Inter-Disciplinary Studies Center. His current research interests are industrial location, fiscal system, state-owned enterprises, foreign direct investment and their impacts on economic development in Laos.

Dr Ann Kull
Ann Kull was a lecturer and researcher at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies from January 2008 to December 2015. She is an islamologist and defended her doctoral dissertation “Piety and Politics: Nurcholish Madjid and His Interpretation of Islam in Modern Indonesia” in November 2005 at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies, Lund University. Dr Jun Liu
Jun was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies from February 2013 to the end of July 2013. He defended his doctoral dissertation “Mobilized by Mobile Media—How Chinese people use mobile phones to change politics and democracy” at the University of Copenhagen in February 2013. He also has a PhD in Chinese studies from Fujian Normal University (2011), with a focus on Chinese film. He has studied Journalism at Xiamen University in southeast China’s Fujian Province. He has also worked as a freelancer and later a feature writer for China Features, Xinhua News Agency from 2005 to 2006. He is now an Assistant Professor at the Department of Media Cognition and Communication at the University of Copenhagen.

Dr Montserrat Lopez Jerez
Montserrat López Jerez holds a PhD in Economic History (2015, Lund University) and is currently a lecturer in Global Economic History, with a focus on Asia, at the University of St Andrews (UK).   Montserrat has been associated with the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies since 2005; first as a Master's student and later on, as a teacher. Her main area of research is the economic development, the long-term impact of colonialism, and agricultural transformation in East and Southeast Asia.

Dr Vipin Negi
Vipin Negi was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University. He visited the Centre during the period September 2009 to June 2010 in the frame of the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window Programme. This grant programme is financed by the European Commission. Vipin is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Keshav College at the University of Delhi, New Delhi India. His primary research interests are foreign portfolio investment and foreign direct investment to India.

Dr Nicola Piper (visiting scholar)
Dr Nicola Piper was a visiting scholar at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University during the month of September 2006. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Sheffield in the UK. Her research interests revolve around international economic migration, governance and policy networks, gender, non-governmental organisations and transnational political activism, and the rights of migrants, with an empirical focus on Southeast and East Asia as well as Europe. Dr T.S.N.Sastry (visiting Erasmus Mundus scholar)
Dr Sastry is one of the few scholars selected to the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window lot 13 in a tough competition and was attached to the Centre for East and South East Asian Studies of Lund University. Dr T.S.N.Sastry is a professor & Head, of the Department of Law, at the University of Pune. He is the coordinator of the Human Rights Education programme for all the students of the University of Pune. Dr Sastry established the Centre for Human Rights of the University Grants Commission of India at Pondicherry University in 1996 and was the Coordinator for a long period of time. His areas of interest are international law and human rights. He is presently working on human rights of Vulnerable groups.


Dr Barbara Schulte
Barbara was a post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre between May 1, 2009, and December 31, 2012. Her research focuses on issues of educational governance, transnational educational actors and organisations, education in Republican China, and the discursive construction of the educational field in China. Further research interests include the emergence of vocational education in China within a comparative framework (India and Argentina). Barbara is now a Professor at the Department of Education, at Vienna University.

Dr Jesper Schlaeger
Jesper Schlaeger was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies at Lund University between September 2014 and August 2016. He holds a PhD in political science from the University of Copenhagen (2012). Jesper joined the centre from a position as an Associate Professor in the School of Public Administration, at Sichuan University. His postdoctoral project examines how the Chinese government uses digital ICT through processes of e-monitoring and citizen empowerment to ensure administrative transparency and accountability with the goal of reducing corruption. It is based on fieldwork in various cities around China.

Dr Jens Sejrup
Jens was a postdoctoral research fellow in modern Japanese studies at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies between January 2014 and January 2016. His research focuses on news media, public debate, and political communication in Japan; Postcolonial issues, Japan-Taiwan relations; Narratives, themes, and key concepts in mass-mediated public discourse. Tommy Shih was a research fellow in Modern Taiwan Studies at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University, Sweden between August and December 2009. He has studied business, with a focus on industrial networks, at Uppsala University and his PhD dissertation from 2009 was titled "Scrutinizing a policy ambition to make business out of science :  Lessons from Taiwan". Michael Tivayanond was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre between December 2001 and March 2003. Dr Ya-Ching Yeh
Ya-Ching was a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University, from October 2011 to February 2012.
