August 2015 is turning into an unusually eventful month in Japan as the country marks the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the end of the Pacific War as well as restarts operations at a nuclear power plant, the first one to be reactivated since the sector experienced a complete shutdown after the Fukushima disaster.

A regular commentator on current events in Japan for a number of Danish national media, Dr. Jens Sejrup has given three live interviews on these issues to broadcasters DR and TV2. In two TV interviews with commercial 24-hour news network TV2 News, Jens discussed the significance of the atomic bombs for present-day Japanese society, as well as the political and diplomatic implications of the prime minister’s memorial address for the war dead. At the same time, in a radio interview with public-service national broadcaster DR, Jens talked about the arguments for and against restarting nuclear installations in the heated debate over the issue in Japan.

The two live interviews with TV2 News aired on 6 and 14 August, respectively. The interview on DR radio channel P1 aired on 12 August and is available (in Danish, “Åbning af atomreaktor i Japan”) at: http://www.dr.dk/p1/p1-morgen/p1-morgen-2015-08-12
