Cultural Heritage in China: Contested Understandings, Images and Practices

The conference took place at the Kulturen museum in Lund on 17-18 June and gathered twenty scholars and experts from China, the US, Europe, and Australia. The scholars represented different disciplines and fields, including heritage studies, art and architecture, cultural studies, anthropology, Sinology, and media and communication studies. The multifaceted and complex understandings, negotiations, debates, and everyday uses of the cultural heritage in different parts of China were discussed and compared, paying close attention to issues of representation and public participation.
